It's a conspiracy

But I think I might have cause for it. First…it’s January (which depresses me beyond belief) THEN there’s a GIANT snowstorm in Toronto tomorrow…which means delays and cancellations are imminent. Paranoid? I think not! The forces of nature have turned against me and are forcing me to stay in the NY for the weekend…perhaps they want me to cheer on the Giants from their home turf? OR maybe this is a bigger thing? I’m being punished for being such a cranky pants for the past week? Whatever it is…hopefully karma will swing my way and release me. Damn you January…bitter right to the very end!

In happy news…well…yep, comin’ up a little short actually. So let’s turn to the dear, sweet Interweb to brighten our day!

Whenever I'm feeling blue I turn to Cuteoverload.com. Seriously...best website ever!!!!1

In housekeeping news – I’d like to retract the Dubya nickname I gave yesterday (or the other day). I didn’t realize it’s strong connection with a certain retarded political leader was so strong (and raw). Apologies. I know christen thee…Mr. Canuck Cap! That work?

Awesometown…the world is a better place already.

Bring on the storm!

OMG When will it end???

Seriously? Something has got to be done with this month. Can we not shorten it, just by a day or two? I’m sure no one will miss it! (apologies to anyone whose birthday is today or tomorrow).

I’m guessing in Latin, January means “Try not to throw yourself out of a window.” I’m no expert, but I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

A very wise man (aka Rico) told me that no major decisions should be made from January to mid-February. So if this applies to you, please heed his sage advice. Like yesterday, should I slit my wrist with a butter knife or not? That’s a major decision…wait till mid-February.

Fine. Life’s not that bad. But I’m not gonna lie…I do have a major case of the saddies. Maybe I need some sun? Some Hawaii? Don’t know. But knowing that Rich is coming down NEXT weekend certainly helps. Don’t get it twisted. I like going home…but three weekends in a row, makes my head hurt and my body ache. 4:30AM ain’t pretty and takes a long time to get over – especially when you’re working till 9:00PM every night. Ick.

But I digress…(or should I say vent?)

In Chuckwood News - Pops is seeing a doc next week in his quest to become one-step closer to a super hero (this is the way I’m going to now refer to the radiation treatment he’s investigating). I mean no disrespect. It actually scares the crap out of me, so I much prefer the idea of my dad transforming into a super hero than some frightening medical procedure. It’ll be just like X-Men (is that how that worked?). Cause if you don’t already know my Dad, he’s already a pretty amazing person – totally worthy of super-hero awesomeness!

Honestly…he’d be a wicked super hero. He always helps people out (home repairs, car tweaks, general McGuiver type moves). All he’s missing is a name. Well, he technically already has one – Johnny Upgrade (since that’s one of his fav things to do, buy stuff, then buy better stuff shortly after he’s bought the original ok stuff). Maybe he could upgrade things with a single touch? Perhaps I’ll have to contract Tom McFarland to sketch something out? Riding his John Deere riding tractor, Dad will swoop in and save the citizens of O-town from buying the sad, “low-rent” versions of items and instantly upgrade it for them. COOL!

Now all we need is an outfit. Don’t worry…no spandex!

Keep your chin up ya’ll. Only 24 hours left in this cruel joke that is January!

Why Canada Kicks Ass!

Because they're probably the only place that sells Bear Bells as Olympic swag. So wicked!!!

In more bear news....Knut turns one. The adorable little polar bear we all fell in love with is not one year wiser. Ahhh (I swear I'd be more witty if I wasn't so burnt out!)

Still at work, which means yet another late night. Sleepy time! These early Monday flights certainly don't make it any easier to be a clever copywriter. But damn it, I'll give it a go. See if some shiz gets bought tomorrow...fingers crossed!

Gots to get home. Or at least the place where I currently sleep here in NY. To call it a "home" might be a bit of a stretch.

Keepin' it really real.

Back in Black

OK that’s not supposed to be morose black, depression, sorrow kind of Bn’B…more like the AC/DC, kick ass, rock out, high-kick till you rip your pants, kind of back.

I’m in a much better place than last week. Don’t get me wrong…things are still FUBAR’d, but they’re working out. We’ve got some good direction coming from our pal Mr.GoodAdvice and I just came off a very relaxing weekend back in the O-town with the fam. (Hi Guys…thanks again. SO WICKED!)

PLUS, Mr. W at the Big O has been über helpful in the sitting down and listening department. Thanks “Dubya” appreciate the concern and the time.

So…what’s going on? Well, I’m thinking of getting back in the “Course Craziness” (to all those new to my life, I’m a bit of a lessons hog. I like new things. I like learning. I like being busy. So new+learn+busy=COURSES!!! I have my eye on a writing course, but feel a wee bit intimidated by the whole “writing in New York thing” (although Cici-my work partner-assures me that there are only 17 people who are actually born and raised in NYC, so if anyone did give me attitude in these classes they’d be some posers from the Mid-West.) Phew.

I also want to do a Masters. OK, not exactly the same as a pottery class, but something that’s always been in the back of my mind. I think I might have found the ideal one. I’ll start a donation section soon (you’ll understand once you take a look at the tuition. In Euros that’s Baaaaling!).

Anyhow, life is getting better. Thank you all for your concern. Hopefully the weeks will be progressively be less dramatic then they have been, believe me I don’t like writing about it any more than you like hearing it!

Happy Monday everyone. Let’s make this the best week ever!

When it rains

it also seems to crap all over your head. Or at least that's what the past 24 hours have been. I'm sorry to have not written sooner, but life is not going my way.

First - it was. Got Rich's visa, started working out plans to move, visited my friends in the T dot, work was cruisin' along...life was good.

Then - yesterday, Rich gets a promotion and now who knows what the hell is going on. I feel sick to my stomach, nervous as to what we're doing and don't even know what to say. Anyway...I suppose it's always darkest before the dawn or something like that...whatever. Just cut me some slack for not writing. I just feel like everything is crumbling.

GOD...could I be more dramatic??? Whatever...will keep you posted.

Thanks for being so patient.

I'm

Sorry…I’ve been working like a stupid person. Tonight is the first night I've been "released" before 10:30. Ahhhhh FREEDOM! I need to go to sleep, or at least go home and watch stupid reality TV. Ahhh, TV…the best friend a gal could ask for!

Off to VisaLand this weekend (applying for Rich’s) so good vibes on Friday.

Sorry…more clever wit (or at least attempts at it) tomorrow…

Breathe in...don't forget the out!

Here we are. The dawn of a new week. The precipice of a new beginning. At least, that’s what it felt like when I woke up this morning. Seriously!? Just seemed like the fog of last week had lifted and it’s now time for optimism and hope, because the alternative is just too grim to give into. I choose “positivitude”

Thank you all for your kind words and good vibes. It means the world to have my friends (and the strangers who read this and spy on my daily meanderings…good to have you on board) spreadin’ the love. It’s what the world needs now, love…sweet love. But I digress…

Weekend – Rich was in town. Did our usual regime of walk till your feet scream. MAN, the urban workout…if I was clever I would have wrote a book about it, published it in time for January and be a ba’gilionaire right now. Hmm, maybe next year!

Saw my friend Jeannie’s play – Church. It was just like that…uugghhh. Now, don’t get me wrong. I ain’t getting’ down on Mr. J…I’m just not a huge fan of sitting in a service. I went to Catholic school, was even an alter’girl (if you can believe it) so I’ve done my time and a play that’s like sitting through a sermon…not my cup of tea. BUT was cool seeing Jeannie.

Then hung out with my OTHER Canuck friend, Joanne. It was her birthday so she was down for some NYC GT’s (that’s good times, o.k. and we had a few bevies too!) Awesome fun!!!

That’s the best part about living here, you don’t really need to visit people, because they all…eventually…end up coming to visit you (well, the city, but you’re also a convenient addition to it. Hey, I’ll take what I can get!)

This week, well…it’s a short one pour moi – heading to the T-snot so I can drive BACK into America (does that make any sense?) so we can apply for Rich’s visa. WooHoo! Project Rico Relocate is officially kicked off! WoooHooo!! So yeah, MORE good vibes needed for Friday. Or maybe I’ll just fill my pockets with donuts? No upstanding border official can deny the sinful, seduction of a Tim Horton’s Sour Cream Glaze. Ummm, heaven!

More soon, and more regular this week. Gotta get back into the swing of things. After all, it IS a new day!

Patience is a virtue

But alas, that's what I'm going to need right now. I'm so sorry to have no written more earlier this week. From Monday to Wednesday 5:59PM work was crazy and gobbled up all of my time. However, from 6:00PM onwards, life is what went topsy turvy. Don't worry, it'll all be o.k. just need to wrap my head around things (and get you all up to speed later...that's one of the things I was debating, but hey...if I can talk about my hooker neighbours at great length, I can certainly talk about my personal life.

Sorry to keep you in suspense, need to craft this one a little more. Or maybe just say it.

uugghhh

Love to ya'll. Send me and my Dad good vibes. I just found out he has prostate cancer.

Back in the saddle again...

Howdy! My it’s been a while. I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and a fabulous New Year. My travels and adventures are too numerous to mention. Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton and beyond – yes, the holidays were a whirlwind, but now it’s time to get back into the swing of things.

I won’t lie…it was mighty tough comin’ back to the Big Apple yesterday. I love my job and really like the city…but spending the night in my house in the T-dot, listening to my dear doggy snore away happily, playing Guitar Hero with the husband I barely get to see…sniff sniff…t’was a tough reality to swallow.

But ya know, sometimes life has a funny way of working out. Allow me to explain.

My sister was in town for New Years (NY town) and stayed in my apartment with her friend Kathy-Ann (a soon to be NY resident). Good times are had by all UNTIL Jan.1 when, my sister realizes (at 5AM) that she’s lost the key to my pad and can’t get back in (shit). So, she decides to change the locks (which I now realize is the scam of the century…she didn’t show ID or ANYTHING. I’m just waiting for this to turn into the new crime of choice. No more B&E, just change the locks of the apartment of your fancy and take what you like!)

Naturally the key I was currently holding had been rendered redundant. So Amie had to change her flight so I could meet up with her (all this happening while I had to do the same thing in Ottawa due to Stormfest 08). But there’s a point of my wee little ramble (and it’s not to point any “key-losing fingers”).

It’s to show how the universe KNEW I’d be crazy sad and need a little company (family company is even better) so that’s why Amie lost the key, changed her flight AND is spending the weekend with me. Uncanny!

What have we been up to you ask? Well, it’s only been 24 hours but so far we’ve taken an exciting stroll over to Whole Foods (but aren’t they all trips into culinary adventure?) Watched bad reality TV (seriously, CELEBRITY APPRENTICE? Who do I have to beg to bring the Hollywood writers back?) and Amie performed a little “craper CPR.”

Huh?

Apparently the toilet was feeling a little backed up, and of course I didn’t have a plunger (that would be far too convenient). So Amie pulled a full on McGuiver move and did a “hand plunge” on the throne. Impressive! Now we have a working toilet and Amie is officially the next Bob Villa of New York City!

Tonight – not too sure what we’re up to, maybe see Juno (my friend Robin said the girl reminded her of me…hmmm, should I be worried?) Or some other NY fun.

Have a great weekend ya’ll. Will be back to my regularly scheduled blogging next week. Monday to Friday (or at least close to it).

In the meantime, have fun breaking those New Years Resolutions. Hey…you’ve stuck with it for at LEAST a week, I think that’s more than enough!

xoxo
